Rob Wylde was a founder member of Gauteng Junior Touch Rugby alongside Ulana Gurow and Siphiwe Khumalo. Rob was influential in the introduction and growth of Boys Touch in Gauteng.
Rob will be fondly remembered for his dedication to the sport. On a daily basis not only did he coach but he also played transport driver to most of his players. His Blue Mazda is fondly remembered as the Touch-Mobile by most of his protégés.
Rob was also a referee in his own right. At Megawatt Park he had his own field, Field 6, where only he officiated. Rob’s efforts have produced many World Cup players, most notably Thabo Motsumi, Siya Masuku, Seagyn Davis, Aimee Dixon and Linda Wilson.
The Rob Wylde Memorial Trophy is a way for SATA to keep Rob’s spirit alive in the sport. Many thanks to Mr & Mrs Wylde for donating this trophy when SATA decided to honour this legend and the dearest friend to all of us.
Western Cape U19 boys were the first time winners of this trophy.
